Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to introduce our Universal Breakfast Programme, which will begin at Newlyn School on Monday 7th September.
As part of the Government's commitment to supporting children's wellbeing and readiness to learn, all children from Foundation Class to Year 6 will be invited to enjoy a free breakfast bagel at the start of the school day.
How will this work at Newlyn?
From 8:30am each morning, our school gates will open to welcome children into school. On arrival, children will go straight to their classrooms, where they will be greeted by their class teacher and supported to settle into the day.
Breakfast will be available for 30 minutes, giving children the opportunity to enjoy a bagel, spend time with friends, and engage in calm wellbeing activities before learning begins.
To ensure that children have sufficient time to eat and settle, we will be making a small adjustment to our morning routine. From Monday, we will aim to close the school gates at 8:50am. This will allow all children time to be ready to begin learning promptly at 9:00am.
Arrival Times
To confirm, we will continue to operate a soft start to the school day.
- Gates open at 8:30am
- Children may arrive anytime between 8:30am and 8:50am
- Gates will close at 8:50am
- School leaders will continue to staff the entrance between 8:50am and 9:00am
Over the next two weeks, we will be encouraging all families to support children in arriving by 8:50am wherever possible.
Why are we making this change?
We hope that this new morning routine will help children to:
- Start the day with a full tummy and ready to learn
- Feel calm and settled before lessons begin
- Enjoy social time with friends
- Access wellbeing activities and a positive start to the morning
- Build strong routines that support attendance, punctuality and learning
We know that any change to established routines can take time, and we greatly appreciate your support as we introduce this new programme.
Breakfast Club
For families who require childcare from 7:30am, our existing Breakfast Club will continue to operate as a payable service.
The only change is that from September, Breakfast Club on Fridays will open at 8:00am rather than 7:30am. This adjustment has been made due to very low demand between 7:30am and 8:00am on Fridays.
