Hello and Welcome to our year 1 Class, which is known as Porthenys Class. (Porthenys is the old Cornish name for Mousehole).   I'm Mrs Squires and very much look forward to the year ahead with your children.
I hope this page will be a useful site to refer to for a general overview of what is happening each term in the class.
Here are some helpful pointers that will help your child's journey through the year. We will be having PE twice a week, it is useful to have PE kit and trainers in school all week.
Please read with your child every day - a minimum of 10 minutes will help with their progress. We all know how important learning to read is, we will send home a Little Wandle reading book to be read every day. Your child will also have a book of their choice from the library, it might be they need you to read this one to them.Â
Over the year children in year 1 need to know:Â https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Spellings are given out to practise at home, the more they practise these, the easier it becomes for them to read them automatically and write them too. We check how well we are doing with them throughout the week and on a Friday we sit down and really think about how well we know them. This is not a spelling test! It is a chance for children to show their understanding of how to spell the word. If you would like more ideas as we move through the year around games to play to help learn trickier words, please feel free to message me through seesaw. Â
