Welcome to Year 3 – Syllan Class
Welcome to the Year 3 Syllan Class page!
Our class is called Syllan, which is the Cornish name for the Isles of Scilly. As a Year 3 class, the children are beginning an exciting new stage of their learning as they transition into Key Stage 2.
Syllan class is taught by Mrs Jackson and Mr Hickman, who work together to provide consistency and support for the children.

Home Learning Expectations
At Newlyn School, we love reading! Children should read to an adult at least five times a week. Please remember to sign your child’s reading diary when you hear them read.
Reading together is a valuable opportunity to share stories and spark imagination. After reading, we encourage you to ask questions about the text using the VIPERS question stems provided at the beginning of the year.
Regular practice of times tables is essential to develop fluency and quick recall. In Year 3, children begin preparing for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check, which requires rapid recall of all facts in the 2,3,4,5,and 10 times tables.
Children know which tables they are focusing on in class and should practise these daily at home. Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) is a great resource to support this learning.
