Design and Technology

In Key Stage 1: children will learn to design purposeful, fuctional and appealing products based on a design criteria. They will evaluate and learn how they can improve. As well as this, they will learn how to cook simple foods. Through art sessions, they will use a range of materials to design and make products based on an artist or designer.

In Key Stage 2: children will build on the skills learnt in KS1 through detailed planning, evaluating and making prototypes. They will also design and cook a range of savoury dishes. Children will begin to master the art curriculum through the specific teaching of drawing, painting, printing and sculpture techniques. As in KS1, they will also study great artists, architects and designers through history.

 

 

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, each of the classes baked a delicious treat to enjoy at a picnic with their family and friends. This included: pasties, scones, pizza, biscuits, sandwiches and cakes. 
The children in Year 4, used accurately measuring, cutting and joining to make model Roman catapults. Then they used them to fire marshmallows across the hall measuring the distance they travelled and evaluating their effectiveness,
