Sponsored Bike Ride
22nd July 2019
After successfully completing their training at the after-school club, children from Newlyn School took part in a sponsored bike ride on Friday 12th July: they rode the Coast to Coast Trail (Bissoe), from Portreath to Devoran and back, a challenging 22 miles. Four of the children cycled from Devoran to Point, increasing their total mileage to 25.5 miles. Fantastic parents supported at designated locations, in case we needed them. Whilst at Devoran, the children, accompanying teachers and supportive parents enjoyed pasties provided by Aunty May’s and jam doughnuts provided by Newlyn Warrens. We were so very proud of them for completing the task. With sponsorship, a raffle and a jewellery stall at the school fete, the children have raised over £1600, and there is still more money expected to come in. A bike has also been donated to the school and we hope to build up a collection of bikes so that all children can have access to bikeability training should they wish. Please see the school website for a list of local businesses that we would like to thank - www.newlynschool.co.uk. Raised monies will be used towards PE equipment, including balance bikes and helmets. The bike ride was a success and plans are already being made for next year’s sponsored ride and other bike riding events. Our aim is to inspire the children to take up this hobby, to build up competency, safety awareness, stamina and fitness.
