Back from Eden Camp
17th June 2016
The children returned from the Eden Project Camp exhausted after three days of a fantastic experiences. The weather was very mixed, but that did not put a dampener on spirits or hinder the children's fun in any way.
The whole group stayed in pods on the YHA site on the Eden Project complex. It was very posh; with en-suite facilities and modern design. Breakfasts and evening meals were served in the main restaurant down in the biomes. Well supplied packed lunches were given out for lunch breaks at midday.
When we arrived on our first morning, we were given the chance to explore, so we wondered down and had a quick look around the Mediterranean biome. Our first activities included pioneering and body zorbing, which was a favourite activity with the children and extremely funny to watch. Dancing at the disco was a hit too. Hannah, our leader, was super at encouraging the children to dance and could show them some moves too.
The children had a rude awakening the next morning with a fire drill, but it got them all moving and ready for the day. After breakfast, the activities included buggy building, where some of the children proved that they had remembered how to bind the logs, and fencing. The afternoon was all to do with climbing up and abseiling down. My favourite activity was the evening in the secret biome. It was in fact the jungle biome when all the days visitors had gone and involved the children being taken around having experiences using their senses.
The final morning was taken up with archery and rocket building and launching.
We were all fully exhausted by the time we were ready to take the minibus back to school, but we all felt that we had accomplished a great three days camp.
Many thanks to all the Eden Project staff who looked after us and ensured that we had a super time.
