A Day for Rugby

20th May 2017

Newlyn School tag rugby team had a great day at Camborne School, playing against six teams in a competition. All the squad surpassed themselves, making some fantastic runs, passing and scoring tries. They played five games in the morning; winning 4 of them. From there, we went over to Camborne RFC to take seats in the stands to watch Cornwall v Hertfordshire. All the children from the morning competition formed a guard of honour for the Cornwall team as they ran onto the pitch. It was a gripping first half, with Cornwall just edging it.
During the half time, Newlyn School played their last game in front of a crowd of thousands. They played with real spirit, but were beaten by one try. If they had won this game they would have been joint winners of the competition. They weren't disheartened though, and enjoyed the second half of the game, where Cornwall asserted themselves to win 45 - 28.
A big thank you to Chris Lea for organising everything and Perran's Dad, Euan, for accompanying us and giving the team some valued support and advice.
